How to Compress Screen Recordings on iPhone

A screen recording can be useful even when you do not need the original file size. Before compressing, check whether the clip needs keeping at all and whether small interface text must remain readable in the result.
Review recordings before changing them
Open the recording and play the parts that carry the information: an error message, a tutorial step or a result screen. Remove unwanted recordings through a normal review rather than compressing files you no longer need. Keep any recording that is your only usable reference until you have checked the replacement.
Find heavier videos first
Swipellio’s free Videos basic mode and Largest sorting help you review file weight. Quick Cleanup also has a separate category for screen recordings within its video tools. That category is a Pro tool; basic video review has no daily swipe cap.
Make the smaller version
For an eligible video card, Optimize video starts compression with Pro. Processing runs on the device. A smaller copy is saved to the library and the original is put in the app’s Trash Bin. An iCloud original may need loading before it can be processed.
Check text and motion, not only the file size
Compression can reduce quality. Play the replacement and pause on small text, menus and moving content. Source dimensions are retained up to a 3840-pixel long side, subject to encoder dimensions; larger sources are scaled down. Retaining dimensions is not a guarantee that every letter looks identical.
Only remove the original after review
Keep the original if the recording loses the detail you need. If you approve the replacement, review the Bin and Recently Deleted before final removal. Keeping both versions temporarily uses space. The pre-compression estimate is not a guarantee of recovered storage.

Check before deleting
A left swipe only moves the photo into the in-app Trash Bin. You can restore it until you empty the Bin; a double tap undoes the last swipe. After deleting from your library, check Recently Deleted in Photos too. Permanently deleting from there cannot be undone.
With iCloud Photos enabled, deleting also syncs to other devices on the same account. Keep a separate copy of important memories before permanently removing them.
