How to Find Receipts and Documents in iPhone Photos

A camera roll can contain both memories and paperwork. Start by deciding what still needs keeping: a receipt for an open return is different from an expired parking slip. Finding the papers is one task; deleting or filing them is another.

Start with a small group you can recognize

If you remember when you photographed a document, open that period in Photos and review nearby pictures. A purchase, trip or appointment can be a useful starting point. Open images with small text before deciding. Two similar-looking pages may contain different dates, amounts or reference numbers.

Use Papers to bring photographed documents together

Swipellio’s Papers mode finds receipts, bills, forms, passports, envelopes and photographed pages in your camera roll. Screenshots of web pages are deliberately excluded. It is a review queue for these photographs, not a promise that every document will be found or that the app will validate its contents.

Keep, remove, or keep and file

Papers offers three outcomes: keep the image, move it to the in-app Trash Bin, or keep it and add it to an album. Filing is useful when you still need a photo and want a place to find it later. Adding an album membership does not make the file smaller or free storage.

Choose the destination album

On first use, choose an existing album or name a destination; Important papers is the default. You can change the destination in Settings. Album actions require Full Access and are hidden with Limited Access. Limited Access still works for the photos you have allowed, but does not provide the same filing flow.

Undo before the decision becomes permanent

A double tap undoes the last swipe. For an album action, undo removes the album membership that was added. Photos sent left remain in Swipellio’s Bin until you empty it yourself, and you can restore them before then. Read a document before removing it, especially if you do not have another copy.

What the free allowance covers

Papers offers 20 free items to try, then requires Pro to continue in that mode. Undoing a swipe, restoring from the Bin or re-scanning does not use another allowance. The free basic modes remain available without a daily swipe cap, so you can still review the library by hand.

Keep expectations separate

An album is an organizational aid, not a separate backup. Review which information you want to retain elsewhere before permanently deleting the photo. Papers processes document detection on your phone; it does not upload the photographs to a Swipellio server. Swipellio still uses internet to load your own iCloud items when needed.

Check before deleting

A left swipe only moves the photo into the in-app Trash Bin. You can restore it until you empty the Bin; a double tap undoes the last swipe. After deleting from your library, check Recently Deleted in Photos too. Permanently deleting from there cannot be undone.

With iCloud Photos enabled, deleting also syncs to other devices on the same account. Keep a separate copy of important memories before permanently removing them.
