Do Live Photos Take More Space? What Changes When You Keep Only the Still

A Live Photo includes motion as well as a still image. Keeping only the still means giving up that movement. Whether the trade is worthwhile depends on the photo: a quiet scene and a child’s changing expression may deserve different choices.

There is no fixed saving for every Live Photo

The possible reduction depends on the original. Do not assume each Live Photo has the same size or multiply an example by your whole library. Review the photo itself and decide whether its movement is worth keeping. An estimate in a cleanup screen is not proof of the space your iPhone will report afterward.

Choose the memory before choosing the format

Play the Live Photo before deciding. A laugh, a voice or a passing moment may be the reason you kept it. If you only want the still image, removing the motion may fit your goal. If you want the movement, leave the original alone. The cleanup does not require treating every Live Photo the same way.

What Quick Cleanup does

Swipellio’s Quick Cleanup includes a Live Photos category. It removes the motion and keeps a still photo. Scanning and the category summary can be inspected without Pro; entering the category tools requires Pro. Favorites are excluded from Quick Cleanup categories. Review the eligible items rather than assuming it processes every photo in the library.

Copies first, originals in the Bin

The smaller copy is saved to the library, and the original goes into Swipellio’s in-app Trash Bin. A run appears as a single Bin card that can be restored as a whole before the Bin is emptied. Restoring brings the originals back and removes the new copies. This gives you a chance to reconsider the change.

What changes and what carries over

The resulting still does not keep the Live Photo’s motion. Album membership and metadata such as date and location carry over to the new copy. That does not make the result equivalent to the original Live Photo: the missing motion is the deliberate tradeoff. Check the result before removing the originals.

Why storage may not change straight away

While originals remain in the Bin, they continue to occupy space. Emptying Swipellio’s Bin deletes through the photo library; check Recently Deleted in Photos afterward. Permanently removing originals there ends the recovery option. The system storage figure may also take time to update.

When a normal review is enough

You do not need Quick Cleanup to remove a Live Photo you no longer want at all. Basic manual swiping is free without a swipe limit. Use the paid conversion tool when you want to keep the still image while giving up the motion, rather than discarding the memory.

Check before deleting

A left swipe only moves the photo into the in-app Trash Bin. You can restore it until you empty the Bin; a double tap undoes the last swipe. After deleting from your library, check Recently Deleted in Photos too. Permanently deleting from there cannot be undone.

With iCloud Photos enabled, deleting also syncs to other devices on the same account. Keep a separate copy of important memories before permanently removing them.
